Our History

If you've ever wondered about the history of our pub, you might be surprised to learn that we're actually older than the fire station we're named after! Our building first opened way back in 1875 as the Great Northern Hotel.

Back then, we were more than just a place for a beer and a bed. There was a large, high-ceilinged room that was a perfect spot for all kinds of gatherings. We're proud of the fact that even the Premier of New South Wales, Sir Henry Parkes, gave a speech from the original balcony back in 1887.

A lot changed during renovations in the 1980s. That's when we got our new name, the Fire Station Hotel, to honor the fire station across the street. It was a smart move, too—it helped people tell us apart from all the other historic "Great Northern Hotels" around NSW. These days, most people just call us "The Fiery."

We've kept things fresh, with more renovations in 2017. Now you can grab a drink in the sports bar, enjoy a meal at our restaurant, or hang out in the beer garden. Come check us out yourself.
